Day Two - We spent a long day in the bus. Unfortunately two in our party had to return to their homes in Claremont due to illness. What a bummer to make it to Tucson and then not actually start the trip.

We had a slight dusting of snow during the evening and the following picture shows the desert with the dusting.
We got to stop in Deming and spend just a half hour in a quaint museum, just enough time to hit the bathrooms and catch some of the exhibits. Lots of great Mimbres pottery, and all sorts of random things, geodes, dolls, medical equipment including an iron lung and wheelchair, all sorts of stuff. Could have spent a couple of hours in there. Here's one of the pots:

We had lunch at the Pink Shop in Palomas, just over the border. Exchange rate is now around 13.5 to 1 pesos to dollars. Nothing to write home about for lunch but it was good and filling. The rest of the store had the general tourist items for sale, and good prices on Tequila. Will have to get some just before we cross back as I don't want to lug it around. Tomorrow we go to Mata Ortiz and get to go to the pottery "factory" of Juan Quezada's daughter. Juan worked in the 60's and 70's rediscovering the clay sources and techniques of the Mimbres pottery. This is probably where I will spend my souvenir dollars - I have done some primitive fire ceramics and really appreciate all the work that goes into forming and decorating these pieces. I hope they aren't too expensive and will be packed well to survive the trip.

I wasn't sure about internet access but the hotel here has wireless, so I will be able to post again tomorrow, after dinner. It has been cold and windy, and I am sure glad I packed my down parka. Buenas noches y hasta manana.
